This private liberal arts college in Virginia was developing a master plan for its campus. The plan included updates to its buildings, landscape improvements and a new campus sign program. As a renowned destination for equestrian enthusiasts, the college wanted to emphasize its great outdoor environment and its creative history, while projecting its relevance in our modern world.

Using the college’s original seal, we created a sign program that incorporated polished aluminum and cor-ten steel (a weathering iron alloy used by sculpture artists such as Richard Serra & Robert Roesch), which achieves a russet patina that will last forever.
